Towards the end of last week, we visited CEA’s Lineshow to see everything the various vendors had to offer.  It was a lot.  So much we didn’t even see everything.   Literally our first visit was to the Sony booth as they showcased various models of their newer camera & camcorder models.   We talk about our brief interactions with the lovely optics Sony has to offer.   In case you think Sony is a dying company, you haven’t seen the cameras.

First up to bat is the RX-100, Sony’s high-end point-and-shoot camera with abilities that lies in-between  a mirrorless interchangeable & a DSLR.   It felt great in hand as its f/1.8 lens captured crystal clear images and processed them quickly.  Sony launched this to bridge the gap between optics like the NEX-7 and A57.  Think Sony’s answer to Canon’s S95 or 100 where you get a wide-variety of manual features in a classic body.   Feels & performs great.  Hopefully Sony will be kind of enough to lend us one for review.

This is a new camcorder part of Sony’s Handycam line.  This is the Handycam HDR GW77V- Sony’s new dust/shock/waterproof camera offering 20.4MP capture + image stabilization, 17x zoom, 29.8mm wide-angle G lens, on a 3inch LCD display.   While we didn’t have too much time to play with one.  Expect it to officially launch sometime early this month for $699.99.  A well-welcomed edition to Sony’s Handycam line.

This was definitely the highlight at Sony’s booth.  This monster is Sony’s HD Handycam camcorder with a very long list of features and abilities for consumers/professionals to enjoy.   This thing shoots 1920 x 1080p HD, shooting 24.1MP still images + image stabilization, built-in surround mic, and 10 x optical zoom all on a 26mm Carl Zeiss lens.  Offering users a 96GB on-board storage plus expansion via Memory Stick DUO or SD card.   The last treat is a built-in projector that can project up to 100inches.   Nice!

The HD Handycam is a very powerful and lightweight high-def camcorder.   Highly-capable that surprisingly maintains focus, no matter how you hold it.  This is out now and armed with a $1,499.99 price tag.  Anyone looking to be the next big director, this one has your name on it.

Behind the glass, we were teased to the Sony’s answer to the GoPro.   The mini mobile camera already has its waterproof cases and helmet/bike holsters.   Unfortunately, there is no pricing or launch details for this at the moment.  Be on the lookout for more info in the near future.

We had to highlight the monster known as the NEX-7.  Offering plenty of features, the NEX-7 is still my personal dream camera.   Its has a nice leather grip for easy single-handed operation and a viewfinder built-in as well as the great-looking, 3inch LCD display.   The LCD isn’t a touchscreen but offers two manual dials for manipulating the settings which can take time to get used to it.   All makes for great results using the NEX-7.  All in all, keep up the good work, Sony.
