Verizon Wireless has always been in an important member of the community it serves.  From empowerment to victims of abuse with HopeLine,  to helping to bridge the technology gap for your device that they service with their workshops.  The most talked about and now 100% LTE network in the New York Metro area has been challenging high school youth and empowering them to reach their goals.

Verizon and their Education Empowerment Program, with the help of the Paterson Public School and the Board of Education of Paterson, selected 20 students to compete in a competition to develop a new marketing plan for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.  Partnering with Samsung and SOTI, the School of Business, Technology, Marketing and Finance as a part of the John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson, NJ presented 20 students with Galaxy Tab 2 devices to help them with their marketing plans which will involve creating a plan and a video showcasing the very device that they will be using.  For most of the students their 4 months in the program will be challenging and taxing but as one young lady stated it will give her an opportunity to challenge herself and prepare for the business world.

The program will focus on mobile learning and using technology in the everyday life to prepare them for higher education as well as the workforce.  The goal is to have the program prepare the students for college and career success.  Verizon will be providing the 20 students with free service during their 4 months with the devices and of course prizes for the best marketing plan. In attendance of the event was the Superintendent of Paterson school District Donnie Evans, the Mayor Jeffrey Jones, the Board of Education President Chris Irving as well as administrative support for the high school, representatives for Samsung and Verizon as well SOTI.  June 2013 is when the program will commence  just in time for the end of school for the students,  Verizon and a panel of judges will choose just 3 finalist of the 20 students.  Voting will be online and open to the public to determine first, second, and third place winners.  I am sure the students will do well and see this through.  Thank you Verizon for shining a light on these hardworking students and most of all the city of Paterson.  It is important to note the Paterson Public School system is the 3rd largest school district in NJ. John F. Kennedy School of Business, Technology, Marketing, and Finance is one of the district’s twelve high school career focused-academies.

Students of JFK, Administrators and Partners in the Verizon Empowerment Program

Verizon has previously worked with other schools in Boston, MA and Newark, NJ and we are happy to report that Paterson can now be part of the program that Verizon has initiated while partnered with Samsung and SOTI.  Good luck to all of the students!!
