Ever since Apple unveiled Siri back in 2011 as part of iOS 5, there have been countless of virtual assistant apps flooding the Android and iOS app stores.  Siri offered more personality and less functionality.  Google Now for Android has been the closest thing to a real assistant.  Incredible Labs based in San Francisco hopes to change all of that with Donna.

Donna is named after the character Donna Moss who was the assistant to the deputy Chief of White House staff on the TV show, The West Wing.  The Donna app acts as a filter to keep you up to date with the important information when you need it.   It takes all of the info form your phone’s contacts, calendars, current location and the location of where you need to be to keep you on schedule with the what’s important in your life.

You also get access to push notifications for reminders, weather updates, directions, street views, and in-app access to services like GoToMeeting, Skype, and Webex for conference calls.

Donna is a more evolved Siri – Think Google Now & a splash AnyDO but without having to ask it anything.

Expect Donna to make its way to the App Store to all in the near future.  Today it is only available in a private beta and will have to sign up for an invite here.
