The quite known lock company Kwikset has recently expanded its brand of wireless locks with the new Kevo lock system.  Kevo is powered by UniKey as it turns your smartphone or tablet into a key.  No more fumbling for your keys when trying to enter your home using this new deadbolt lock.

A lock to your front door where keys are optional.

How does Kevo work exactly?  Your sync your smartphone with the Kevo lock over Bluetooth using the free app in the App Store and then just touch the lock to unlock it and enter.   The deadbolt uses four AA batteries to power itself along with the LED ring.   it also comes equipped with a physical key for backup in case of any problems.

Back to the app, it allows you sync with your phone as well as other features.  You can send eKeys to you people like your babysitter, contractor, or neighbor along with disabling or deleting them too.  At the moment, it is only supported by the iPhone 4S & 5.

Above you have the key fob for those interested in using the Kevo system but don’t have a smartphone or the supported ones.  Just leave the fob in your pocket or purse and the lock will recognize it the same to allow access for entry.  You can purchase more fobs in case you want back ups for the entire family.

It uses a patent-pending technology to recognize to recognize authorized users so you won’t have to worry about someone getting inside your home after you used it.   And if you lose your phone, you can login to Kevo’s web portal to disable & delete the keys attached to your device.  No word on pricing or availability at the moment but if you hit the link below, you can stay updated from Kwikset themselves.

FYI: Kevo uses multiple levels of military grade encryption along with some built-in security within the Bluetooth.
