Today is the day where Samsung lifts the cover off of its reemergence into the Smart Watch arena w/ the Galaxy Gear.  After being spotted this past weekend, we now have all of the official details on it.  As it turns out, the Gear will be more than just a 2nd screen like the Pebble – it will be like a companion to your smartphone.

The Gear is sporting a 1.66inch Super AMOLED display w/ 320 x 320 resolution, powered by a 800MHz processor, dual microphones for noise cancellation + 1 speaker, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.0 support, accelerator, gyroscope, a 1.9MP camera built onto the wrist strap that is capable of recording in 720p HD, and a 315 mAh battery inside.

The Galaxy Gear is stuffed full of software too.  Inside you have Banjo, Path, eBay, Glympse, Pocket, RunKeeper, MyFitnessPal, TripIt, S Voice, S Memo, ChatOn and many more.

The Gear is capable of viewing phone notifications, making + conducting phone calls using S Voice, you can use the smart watch to find your smartphone, and built-in pedometer to support the fitness tracking apps mentioned above.  You have 10 different clock options and more choices that can be accessed from Samsung directly. The Gear comes in six different colors: Jet Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold, and Lime Green.

No word on when exactly when Samsung’s smart watch will launch here in the US.  We will get a hands-on w/ the Galaxy Gear later on today.
