And lastly from the Qualcomm event in NYC, we spotted the recently announced HTC One Max.  HTC’s flagship Android device quickly became one of my favorite Android devices of the year thus far.  And to complement the One mini and to combat Samsung’s Note series, they crafted the 5.9inch One Max.  I got a chance to get a handle on it as my notes lie below.

  • As you can tell from the images, HTC went w/ the Mini’s build materials that uses both plastic & aluminum rather than the all-metal design from the One.  Even the Power button & volume rocker is on the side like the Mini.  Bummer.  I wanted 5.9inches of metal.  Oh well. Being still mostly made of metal, the One Max has more heft than other bigger smartphones.  It doesn’t weigh a ton but a noticeable weight to it.
  • Like every 1080p display HTC makes, the One Max continues to look beautiful.  Everything is sharp, bright, and great color reproduction.
  • Unfortunately, the One Max sports the same 4MP Ultrapixel rear-shooter as the rest of the One family.  The camera is good but I wanted to see maybe an 8MP Ultrapixel sensor to help take everything to the Max.  Yeah  Pun intended.
  • The fingerprint scanner on the One max is an interesting approach to it as you can designate up to 3 fingers total and have each one open a specific app upon unlocking.  You actually swipe your print to open rather than just sitting your digits on the reader.  Looking forward to test this when its time for the review.

The software got upgraded to a newer version of Sense and Android 4.3 too.  Sprint and Verizon have been announced to carry the One Max before the end of the year.  I look forward to spending more quality time with this One.
