TechGuySmartBuy TYLT Energi Power Case iPhone 5 Review

Ah, the iPhone.  Known for many things: great camera, best app ecosystem, and more.   Battery life on the other hand is not one of them.  While we haven’t tested the iPhone 5s as of yet but for everyone else, a charger is necessary on a daily basis.  I know I do, especially during the week.

Thank God for third-party accessories that craft wonderful pieces to assist in the battle to extend your iPhone battery.  For a few weeks, we have been testing the Energi Sliding Power Case by TYLT to see how well the case can be in extending the juice on my iPhone.  Time to find out if this is one of the best solutions for your iPhone’s battery.

Design/Build
TYLT crafted an interesting twist on crafting a battery case.  Instead using a single charging case, its actually a two-in-one case system.  It offers a lightweight plastic Protective Accent case that protects the corners of your iPhone (TYLT gives you 2 colors to alternate from).  This slides into the polycarbonate Power Sleeve part of the case using the grooves on the side.  You can use the Accent case without or without the Power Sleeve.
“Now the case doesn’t completely protect your iPhone but that’s not what’s made to do.”

The Power Sleeve offers a LED light as an battery life indicator that shows you the power status of your battery case.  Blinking Red for no battery left, Red for low battery, Blue for the battery being half full, and Green for a full battery. Oh, and just in case you are wondering, the headphone jack does fit w/ the Power Sleeve on.  And if you have a pair of Beats or other headphones, it ships w/ a 3.5mm extension adapter.

Battery Life
The Power Case is equipped w/ a 2500 mAh battery which suggests an additional 9 hours of juice.  This is the biggest battery size seen on an iPhone battery pack.  Mophie’s Juice Pack Plus caps out at 2100 mAh.  On a full charge, TYLT Energi case can have my iPhone battery from 32% to 100% in under one hour – while still using it. It took about 6 hours to fully charge the case and is capable of giving you one full charge and a half, fully-powered.  I’m just glad I don’t have to charge the Power Case often.  Great job TYLT!

TG 2 Cents
TYLT may not be an accessory manufacturer you ever heard of but you might want to get familiar.  Prior to meeting a rep at an event, I too wasn’t too familiar w/ the company and its products – but I am now.  This battery case is well-built and does wheat it’s supposed to very well.  Now the case doesn’t completely protect your iPhone but that’s not what’s made to do.  You have the front screen exposed but you can pick a screen protector to solve that dilemma.  The Energi Sliding Power Case helps get me through the day and when I am out-and-about at events covering tech.  As long as the case is fully charged, I have no worries.
To Buy Or Not To Buy
This is an easy buy.  This is essential for iPhone power users to keep your phone charged.  For $99.99, its worth the headaches it can save by keeping your iPhone from going dead.  You can pick up one from TYLT directly or on Amazon.
FYI: TYLT makes this case for the Galaxy S4 as well.
