According to the Wall Street Journal, Google + Audi look to unveil their new partnership next week at CES.  Their sources peg the team-up to unveil an Android-based in-car entertainment & information systems.  Allowing drivers + passengers to access their music, navigation, & apps from their Android device in sync w/ their car.

To future Audi owners: don’t expect to pick up an Android-powered Audi in 2014 though.

This would put Google’s entrance in the automobile arena more than 7 months after Apple announced theirs.  Tim Cook & company unveiled their iOS In The Car earlier this summer during WWDC.  This solution would bring access to your iPhone’s messages, phone calls, mapping, iTunes Radio and other app support powered by Siri.  Although it was announced, Apple has yet to provide any further info in regards to it at the moment but already has the support of BMW, Daimler, General Motors, Ferrari, Honda, and Mercedes-Benz.

Consumers should expect to see Android-powered Audis within the next 4 or 5 years out.   Last year at CES, Audi demoed off its super cool, self-parking technology.   Good to see the company is continuing to innovate for the future but I’m still waiting for a flying car a la The Jetsons though.
