Earlier today we live in NYC for the Microsoft Surface event where they unveiled their 3rd-generation Surface Pro. Microsoft hopes to truly convince the world that theirs is better. While we still have quite a bit of testing ahead of us, we wanted to share our notes on our initial thoughts on newest, portable powerhouse from the house of Windows.

  • First and foremost, this is probably the lightest 12inch display we have yet to encounter. Feels decent in one-hand and an even better with 2. Weighing in at 1.8 lbs and measuring 9.1mm thin. Microsoft is definitely flexing their design chips with this one.
  • The 2K display is beautiful, gorgeous, (insert other pleasant adjective here) w/ a 2160 x 1440 resolution. It is definitely equivalent to Apple’s Retina MacBook Pros. Sporting a 3:2 aspect ratio as well – mirroring that of an actual paper.
  • Say goodbye to the 2-stops on the kickstand w/ last year’s Pro model. The Pro 3 now has a new friction-hinge that allows for sitting at any angle. You can keep the standard tilt or limbo as low as you can view it. Ideal for tabletop viewing to sitting in your lap.
  • The new Type Cover keyboard now has backlit keys as it can be more sturdy by attaching itself to the front of it as well as clasping onto the connectors. Now has a much more responsive trackpad. Immensely improved from previous models.

Pre-orders kick off in less than an hour as we will kick off further testing for the review – especially the battery life.
