google self-driving car prototypeMany of you may or may not have heard about Google’s self-driving vehicles. The 1st stage involved computers driving using sensors to drive. It still had a human on the passenger side to take over in case of any issues. Apparently, Google worked out all of the kinks and is moving forward w/ the next phase.

Last night, Google revealed their latest self-driving prototype. Resembling a mix between a Fiat and a toy car, the newest is a 2-seated offering space for luggage/bags along w/ a start + stop button and display showing your route.

No brakes, no steering wheel but only goes up to 25MPH.

Google is hoping to reduce the deaths from auto accidents (33,000 in the US & 1.2 million globally every year) with the self-driving vehicles. Don’t look for these anytime soon as it will take some years to get more kinks out and approvals for them to go live. They want to do a pilot program in Cali in a few years and then hope to expand from there.
