As we being wrapping up our review of the mid-range Desire Eye from HTC, its time for our usual camera test.  As we move closer to the M9 official launch this is very important for the Taiwanese company.  It definitely matters in this one as HTC is looking to step up their optics department for their phones.

The Eye stands out a bit w/ a f/2.0 28mm 13MP wide-angle sensor on the rear and a f/2.2 22mm 13MP wide-angle sensor w/ dual LED flash on the front as well.  We'll do as we usually do. Focus on whether or not the actual camera's performance is good or not.  As this along w/ the battery life are key features when choosing to buy a smartphone.  Lets get to it.

Though Ultrapixel isn't on the back anymore, HTC still struggles to make a good camera.

On the downside, the 13MP rear-facing shooter isn't groundbreaking.  Especially being up against the iPhones, Lumias, and Galaxy devices in the world.  It has good rendering but lacks proper clarity for good shots when blown up.  Under the proper lighting you can get some good shots but other than that, don't expect much form the rear shooter.

On the upside, the 13MP front-facing shooter offers better selfies than any other device.  Mind you, it isn't perfect either but since other manufacturers aren't focusing on the front but more so the rear shooter.  There is still grain but w/ the right lighting you can score some shots worthy of the Gram (aka Instagram).  Its ideal for selfies + video chats.

While this is only a mid-range device, HTC is having trouble keeping up w/ the competition in this one department alone.  They're starting to slowly move away from the failed Ultrapixel experiment but still missing the ingredients to make a great shooter for their devices.  I have noticed that they've beefed up their rendering software to get your results faster but still struggles.
