Earlier today, Nest held a press event ready to show the world what they have been working on.  It was pretty much rebranding products and refreshes.  Don’t start sighing as it is a good thing.

For starters, they unveiled the Nest Cam.  It is pretty much like Dropcam as Nest purchased it a while back.  It has been slimmed down and adds a magnetic base w/ tripod attachment.  Inside lies a 3MP camera that records video in 1080p @30fps, utilizes infrared vision for seeing at night, 8x digital zoom, and a 130-degree field of view.  It is wall-mountable and allows you to talk two-ways w/ it.  With its companion app, it can notify you every time there is motion or sound detected.  And lastly, Nest Cam owners will also have the option to back up your footage via the cloud for a fee of course.

Next up, we have the 2nd-gen Nest Protect.  It has a new design as it is now 11% smaller than the 1st-gen model.  It now has a split-spectrum sensor to better detect fast & slow-moving fires, the ability to silence via the app, easier installation, and a 10-year product lifetime warranty.

Then we have the device that started it all. the Nest Thermostat.  Well not the device but more so a software update for the device.  In version 4.5 we will see new treats like safety temperature alerts in case you home gets too cold or hot, alerts from Nest Protect as they now work hand-in-hand, an emergency shutoff, and better support for homes w/ more than one zone.  The update should begin rolling out today.

And lastly, the Nest app is getting updated to v5.0.  This offers a new home screen & UI to work hand-in-hand w/ all Nest products including the new Cam.  The new update will begin rolling out soon for both Android & iOS.

The Nest Cam is available today for $200 as the 2nd-gen Nest Protect sells for $100.
