The Android tablet.  It has been kind of thing trying to find its way in the world of iPads (even they are having trouble these days  sales-wise).  Other than a select few including from ASUS, NVIDIA, and the Nexus slates their aren't a high number of Android tablets that really deserve to be on your radar.

Lenovo has tried their hand at a few of them as well.  This time they may have found a way to stand out.  They unveiled their Yoga Tablet 2 Pro earlier last year as it is set to be the pinnacle of a multimedia slate.  This has plenty of bells and whistles w/ specs + features like a pico projector, kickstand, big sound, and a big battery.  Time to see what kind of tablet experience it results in.

The 13.3inch IPS display on the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is following suit w/ the high-end specs of screens these days of a 2560 x 1440 resolution + 221ppi.  Though not a huge pixel density like the other 2K panels out on the market but none of them are a 13inch tablet...just yet.  You still get great visuals w/o the colors being oversaturated while touting great overall brightness & deep blacks. Though not the sharpest display, it is still a good one.

The internals utilize a 1.33GHz quad-core Intel Atom CPU w/ 2GB of RAM + 32GB of storage while running Android 4.4 Kit Kat (yes, Kit Kat) w/ Lenovo's UX.  At 1st glance, it's like a super-sized version of any other Android tablet but diving reveals that there is more to it.  You do have to get used to not having an app tray while you can enjoy new things multi-windows mode for multitasking.

The sum of all of these parts mentioned above leads to a pretty good tablet performance.  The CPU does struggle when downloading bigger files or doing bigger tasks like multitasking.  But for normal tablet uses, it will be fine.  Inside of its cylinder design lies a 9600 mAh battery.  It is capable of lasting a good 8 to 10 hours w/ casual usage and about 4-6 hours w/ heavy usage & brightness turned all the way up.

The pico projector on board can be viewed as a gimmick to some or another way to enjoy media for others.  It was a bit of an in-between for me.  I liked and thought it was cool but it wasn't something I used often.  It could've been a bit brighter but wasn't that big of a deal.  Of course, you need to be further away to truly enjoy the quality of the projection.

The best reason to spend $500 on an Android tablet - if you were going to do so.

Lenovo created a rarity of sorts w/ this big tablet as there is nothing like it out on the market.  Although it can be a productivity slate, it is naturally a media consumption device.  Think of this as a professional tablet or an Android version of the upcoming iPad Pro.  You have a long battery life, great 2K display, pretty good speakers, the ability to hang it on doorknobs and such thanks to its hinge, and a decent projector on board.  While it performs pretty good in most categories, you just have to ask yourself: do you have a need for it?
