The Moto G is definitely Motorola's cash cow and has been probably since its inception about 3 years ago.  Motorola pulled the curtain back on the 2015 lineup of devices last week.  We were in attendance and we left w/ their new 2015 Moto G to check out and review.

One might ask how could they improve it this time around?  Well, Motorola made sure to answer the question by now just bumping up the specs. You now got LTE on-board, a new waterproof body, and now Moto Maker customization in the mix.  We want to let you know our top reasons on why you should by the new Moto G.

1. Water-Resistant Body

Nothing beats not having to worry dropping your smartphone in the sink while washing dishes.  The Moto G's body is now water-resistant body rated at IPX7 which means that it will till work after being dropped into 3ft for up to 30 minutes.

Its not waterproof but its close enough to take splash, spills, etc.  Definitely helps as accidents do happen but you need to make sure the rear cover is completely closed or else you device is finished.

2. Battery Life

Keeping your G on is a 2470 mAh battery inside that cannot be accessed.  Motorola touts a 24-hour battery life w/ mixed usage.  Awesome news is that it can go beyond that.  Throughout my testing, I got about   hours w/ heavy streaming via Google Music, YouTube, Hangout convos, emails, and some light gaming.  Although it doesn't have Quick Charge features but w/ this kind of battery life, you won't miss it too much.

You might get damn-near 2-days of battery life w/ this one.

3. Pricing

To get all of this starting only at $179 off contract for what the G has to offer is all I have to say.  But to better elaborate, for $179 you get 1GB of RAM + 8GB of storage and for $220 you get 2GB of RAM + 16GB of storage.

Both options come w/ a microSD card slot for expansion so you can quit your belly-aching.  Just the box, pop your SIM card in and you're good to go.  This lower price point has worked so well for the previous Gs it continues here and now throughout the entire 2015 Moto lineup.

The 2015 Moto G is the best bang for your buck - now more than ever.

In-Betweens:

  • Software - Motorola's nameless UI allows you to do quick actions like chopping it twice like a knife to activate the flashlight and double-twisting your wrist for quick camera launch.  The Moto Display is still present and takes advantage of the display w/ notification previews w/o having to unlock your device.
  • Cameras - the new Moto G has the same f/2.0 13MP shooter inside of the Nexus 6.  Of course, don't expect 4K video capture but you do get 1080p @30fps.  Other than low-light, its a great camera.  On the front is a wide-angle 5MP shooter as the industry is stepping up their selfie game.
  • Performance - Motorola's utilization of the quad-core Snapdragon 410 CPU is great.  You'll still will be able to play heavy graphic-intense games w/o dealing w/ stutters & lags.
  • Moto Maker - This being the 1st time the G got access to Motorola's customization program.  With it you can customize the backplate cover as well as the strip under the camera lens + above the dimple.

TG 2 Cents

The Moto G went from being a great entry-level device to now to a great mid-ranger ideal for those needing of a burner phone or 1st smartphone for older family members/teens.  Long battery life, customization from Moto Maker, the awesomeness of Motorola's software running on top of stock Lollipop, and great off-contract pricing.

Keep in mind, this isn't supposed contend w/ the upper echelon of flagship devices like the One M9, G4, iPhone 6 or the Galaxy S6. This is for those of you looking for a capable device but don't want to spend a lot of $$$ for it.  All without having to skimp out of specs & performance.  Motorola struck gold again w/ this year's Moto G.
