Looking for a great Bluetooth headset, but you need to still be aware of your surroundings.  Plantronics has the solution for you.  The Backbeats Pro is just what you need.  Take a look at what it has to offer.

I have been a huge fan of music and always look for great earphones or headsets. Now the choices are plentiful but I have kids and need to consider what is happening when my kids think I am not listening.  The Backbeat Pro has answered my needs. The headset is very comfortable and lightweight.  It keeps more of the comfort that we have come to expect from over the head headsets without jeopardizing the awkward and crazy look that can be accompanied from strangers on the street.  The sizing is bigger than others but that is to house all of the greatness within.  There is noise cancellation as well background mic capabilities.

Battery/Performance

The battery is said to allow for an estimated 24 hours of continuous use. This doesn’t begin to give an accurate account of standby.  This headset goes into automatic standby as soon as you take it off your ears.  As a matter of fact it pauses your music (via Bluetooth) as soon as it no longer detects pressure on the left ear.  The mechanism allows for days and days of standby possibly even a couple months.  I have been running my headset off of one charge over 30 days.  Please keep in mind when using the noise cancellation and the environmental microphone feature it does use more of the battery. Charge time is just under 2 hours from completely dead, though you can still use the included standard 3.5 mm wire adapter.  This is of course if you can get the battery to die, because I can’t.

Design

The design is great.  To pair the headset simply press and hold the right ear (which doubles as your redial/answer/end button).  You will first power on the headset with the power switch on the rear side of this earpiece.  Next to the power switch are five led lights that help with charging status, pairing mode, as well as battery status. The volume control is also on the right ear pad. It is a rigid circular ring that you crank to the front to turn up the volume or crank to the back to turn down the volume.  The volume controls will also adjust the ambient microphone.  On the right ear there is also a mute button on the bottom of the earpiece.  The left ear is set for more of your music controls.  The left earpad button is play and pause.  The Active Noise Cancellation or ANC button is on the back left side opposite the power button.  The rigid circular ring is also evident on the left ear this time as next track or previous track.  There is also a micro USB charging port as well as the 3.5 mm headphone jack for wired connection.

Features/Sound

Besides being Bluetooth and analog compatible, the Backbeat Pro has NFC connectivity, for quick connection to your mobile device. The noise cancellation can work with or without music playing, but the power needs to be on to active the mice.  The microphones on the headset also help with phone calls and clarity, by suppressing the back ground noise and enhancing the sound quality.  It also doubles as working microphones to allow you to hear what is going on when others around think you can’t hear them.  Yes, it allows for the amplification of ambient noises to hear everything very clearly as you enjoy your media that comes through the headset as well.  I enjoyed using this especially for my kids.  It works great!!.  I enjoyed that I could control the volume of the mic levels of the ambient noise that was filtering in as well, which is a great feature.  Most may not realize how useful this could be but to a parent it was outstanding.

Options

I stated earlier that there is the option of using a wired setup for when your device isn’t charged or just because you don’t want to use the Bluetooth feature.  You have standard volume control and answer/end controls on the provided 3.5 mm cable. Of course you will not have access to the noise cancellation, volume control from the crank wheels or the ambient mic feature, these run on battery power. All and all the wired set up provided great sound as well.

BackBeat Pro

The BackBeat Pro by Plantronics is well worth the investment.

TG 2 Cents

The price tag is very convenient and because of the quality of the device, it is worth it. The BackBeats Pro are priced at $249.99 availability are online as well most electronic stores.  It has comfort, effectiveness, multiple usage, long life battery, as well the noise cancellation to bat.  Quality is great and the noise cancellation works very well.  I had the most fun with the ambient mic feature.  Calls were clear and I had no one complain about not hearing me.  Plantronics has been working hard for years to create outstanding devices and have done that once again. My thoughts are the Backbeats Pro will be great to take on the go if you are a traveler, commuter, or just love listening to music.  What are you waiting for pick up a pair and enjoy a new listening pleasure when no one thinks you are listening.  You may be surprised what you will hear.

The BackBeat Pro by Plantronics is well worth the investment.  While it is not the smallest over the ear headset available it is definitely the best so far.  It has great potential and does well with multi-tasking.  Plantronics has a winner in my book and after you try it out you may feel the same.   Do you think it is the best Wireless Bluetooth to start for  2015?
