macos siri wwdc16Next up for WWDC is the Mac software.  As we said no longer will it be Mac OS X but it will officially be called just macOS.   The newest update will be called Sierra too BTW.   This is really just to unify the names across all Apple software as you now have iOS, macOS, tvOS, & watchOS.

For starters, Siri is officially now on the Mac after being only on all things iOS for 5 years.  It will work just like it does on iOS as it will have its own icon on the dock as well.  You’ll be able to schedule reminder, send text messages, open apps, look up movie times, sports scores/stats, and more.  You’ll be able to search through your files and save searches on your Notification Center as well.

Apple adds some functionality to the Continuity side of things.  For Apple Watch users, you will be able to unlock your Mac by just getting near your macOS computer.  Now you have a universal clipboard which allows you to copy & paste between an iPhone & a Mac.  Apple made sure to put some effort towards iCloud as well w/ syncing desktops over several devices and free up physical storage by putting it in the cloud.  Safari gets the option to use Apple Pay when you’re making online purchases but you will still need your iPhone for authentication purposes.

The public beta of Sierra will arrive in July w/ the final release in the fall.  What new feature are you looking forward to trying out?
