vzw 2016 stockAfter rumors circling about it since late last week, we now have official confirmation on it.  Verizon has officially acquired Yahoo for $4.83 billion.  Yahoo has over 1 billion monthly active users w/ 600 million of them on the mobile side of things.

What does this mean for Yahoo?  Well, this means that Yahoo Mail, Sports, Stocks, Tumblr, and other online brands as well as their Brightroll ad service too.  For the time being, Marissa Mayer will still remain CEO but that could actually change sometime after the sale is complete.  Verizon would not get a hold of Yahoo’s cash or stakes in Alibaba and Yahoo Japan as those are off-limits.

Yahoo joins AOL as another company that has been absolved by Verizon.  As w/ other acquisitions, it will be subject to approval by regulators & Yahoo shareholders.  Verizon hopes the deal will be complete by early 2017.  In the meantime, Yahoo will run independently.

What’re your thoughts on Verizon snatching up these companies?
