google-photoscanToday, Google showed off some new features for Google Photos in NYC.  For starters, you’ll see new editing abilities within the Photos app but the big deal is their newest companion app: PhotoScan.   Let’s dive into everything that’s new w/ it, shall we?

The new PhotoScan app is exactly how it sounds.  It utilizes the camera along w/ machine learning to literally scan older photos and add them to your Google Photos library.  It’s all done in a super-easy way too.  You just open up the app and hold your phone over the photo (within a frame or not).  Just make sure the photo is within the frame of your shot & keep the flash on.  Then 4 dots appear and you move your phone over each one until they turn blue.  Afterward, you can edit, save, and share the photo online or otherwise.

On the Google Photos side of things, you have new auto-enhancement that works even better thanks to their machine intelligence.  They even added 12 more looks or filters for you to choose from which you can further edit as well like color balance, skin tone, exposure, blue levels, etc.   And lastly, we have new Movies features like Lullaby – which creates a montage of baby photos, Holidays which puts all of the Christmas & other holidays together, and others coming next year like National Pet Day & Earth Day-themed movies.

Keep in mind, this is only the beginning.  Google isn’t done as more features are set to arrive over the course of the next few months as well so stay tuned.
