ios_11_ipad_iphoneSo Apple made sure to reveal everything coming to the new iPhones later this fall w/ iOS 11.   This will a bit more so for the iPads but those of you w/ iPhones can definitely enjoy the new update that is set to arrive.

  • The App Store gets a new & updated look starting off w/ a Today tab to show off new apps.  Games now get their own dedicated tab.  You also get another Making Of Apps, How-Tos, & other content for select apps.
  • The Files App finally brings forth a traditional file management system.  It will allow you to view your files as well as your files for iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive, & more.  This is set to arrive for the iPad for now.
  • Control Center gets a facelift that offers a lot more info this time around.  More specifically, it compresses everything on one page w/ additional 3D Touch support to give you access to more options.
  • Apple Pay can now send payments from person-to-person as predicted.  You will now be able to send-and-receive $$$ via iMessage.  This is done via an Apple Pay Cash Card that can be transferred to your bank acct as well.
  • Siri gets smarter & possibly more useful.  For starters, it’s more natural when responding to you as it can now translate from English to  Chinese, French, German, Italian, or Spanish.  It can now offer suggestions based off of on-device learning.  Like topics or places used in Safari to use in Mail or Messages.  
  • The Camera gets new tricks that will be a lot more useful on the iPhone but iPad camera users can take advantage as well.   Portrait Mode images now get help w/ optical image stabilization, w/ flash, & in HDR.  You also get Boomerang-like effects built-in w/ Loop & Bounce effects coming to Live Photos.  And lastly, Apple is switching its photo format to HEIF (High-Efficiency Image File) format to take up less space for photos as well as 4K video.  
  • For those of you who use Apple Maps, it’s getting better as well.  You can now get indoor maps for airports & malls in select cities.  Malls in cities like Boston, Chicago, Hong Kong, London, LA, NYC, Philadelphia, SF, San Jose, Tokyo, & DC.  And over 20 airports in US & international locations.  
  • Do not Disturb While Driving is now added to Maps as well.  This will also offer up lane guidance & speed limits to assist on unfamiliar roads.  You won’t get any text messages either unless it is urgent then it will be seen. 
  • The iPad gets even better w/ iOS 11 thanks to a new drag-and-drop feature.  This will help you move info/media quickly form a split screen to a single one.  This will turn your iPad into the Spaces feature (or F3) on the Mac.  
  • Apple is beefing up their music & audio support across all things Apple.  They’re doing so by iOS 11 offering multi-room audio support for their devices as well as their 3rd-party speakers.  Welcome to Apple’s AirPlay 2 ya’ll.  
  • Apple has been rumored to heading towards AR (augmented reality) and they’re about ready to start.  They announced their AR Kit for developers to build the support directly into the core of iOS.  

Along w/ those bigger points, you’ll be able to do screen recording, a one-handed keyboard option, FaceTime Live Photos, password autofill for apps, screenshot + markup, Wi-Fi password sharing, QR code support, NFC reader mode, and much more.
