Earlier today, Sony announced an updated version of the popular RX100 line of point-and-shoot cameras.  Meet the RX100 Mk VI: bringing forth the biggest change in the line in quite some time.

Previously, the RX100 series was armed w/ a f/1.8-2.8 24-70mm lens.  Now it has a f/2.8-4.5 24-200mm 8x optical zoom lens on board.  It will retain its optical image stabilization as Sony states that it is better and will make up for the zoom w/ sharper results.  Also new is support for HDR video by the way of Sony’s Hybrid Log-Gamma profile and double the eye tracking performance as well.

You’ll still have its OLED viewfinder, 3inch touchscreen panel that flips up/down, 20.1MP Exmor RS sensor, 315 phase-detect autofocus points, shoot at 24fps, high-speed video @960fps, 4K video, and still no port for a mic though.

So along w/ the new features comes a price hike as well.  These are usually priced at $1,000 but the Mk VI arrive next month w/ a $1,200 price tag w/ it.  This is a nice point-&-shoot to give you everything in one package but it might be cheaper to get the a6300 for a slightly larger package.

So who’s picking one up?
