Just when we thought we were getting back closer to some normalcy, a new strain hurls us back into pandemic mode.   However when it comes to school, the show must still go on.  Hopefully everyone can stay healthy while learning/teaching this school year.  As the school year approaches or already started depending on where you live, we got 14 picks on gift ideas to tackle it – regardless of your budget.  

Apple AirTag

For those of you always misplacing your things, the AirTag was made just for you.  Apple’s take on the Tile tracker is using things like Bluetooth, Ultrawide band technology, Find My app, a built-in speaker, & other iPhones to find your lost item.  Its battery can be replaced and works w/ the iPhone 11 or newer.   

Chromecast w/ Google TV

Google’s latest redesign of the Chromecast is easily their best yet.  Instead of just being a streaming dongle, it is now an entire TV streaming solution powered by Google TV.  You got a remote w/ buttons that can be remapped and can add a USB-C dongle to sideload media and/or add extra storage.  

Herschel Heritage Backpack

The Herschel Heritage Backpack is a 21.5L size backpack w/ classic elements while touting some style to it.  You got a front pocket for smaller things as a compartment for up to a 15inch laptop among other things. It also arrives in a variety of color options as well to suit your style.

Elgato FaceCam

For those of you who livestreaming on the evenings/weekends or virtual learning, you’re gonna need a good camera to handle all of that.  We’ll point you to Elgato’s latest FaceCam.  This gives you a f/2.4 Sony sensor capable of giving you up to 1080p@60fps of uncompressed video.   This has its own image processor built-in and equipped w/ editing/livestreaming software to get started. 

Google Nest Hub w/ Sleep-Tracking

Google’s 2021 edition of their Nest Hub smart display added a surprisingly great new feature: Soli radar chip.  So with this, you add the motion-gestures for navigation and sleep-tracking.  Yup, this will help you get a better night’s rest via their Sleep Sensing feature as well as 50% more bass output via their speaker.  

Sonos Roam

While Sonos is known for their in-home smart speakers, this is their 2nd & smaller portable speaker w/ the Roam.  Giving you the audio output that Sonos is known for in a small & portable package.  You got Bluetooth/Wi-Fi combo, voice control, and 10-hour battery life within a IP67 dust/water resistant body.  

Sony WF-1000XM4 Earbuds

When it comes to earbuds at the moment, Sony probably has the best in class.   The latest WF-1000XM4 earbuds is outdoing the competition in just about every way.  You got memory-foam-like earbuds, bone-conducting sensors, their own Integrated Processor V1 + beamforming mics for blocking out noise to near headphone quality, and 8-hours battery life w/ ANC on.  

Nintendo Switch

Another guide, another entry for the Nintendo Switch.  Having a better variety of games to choose from w/ this platform and being portable, this is hard not to recommend.  While the Microsoft + Sony battle it out for next-gen hardware, Nintendo keeps gaming fun and is winning by doing so.  Despite an OLED upgrade on the way, I would point you to this one.

Despite always opting for Google’s Chromebook option, Acer’s latest can give you a lot more for less money.  Their Chromebook Spin 713 is their 2-in-1 laptop offers a Core i5 CPU, 8GB of RAM, & 128GB SSD for storage on a 13.5inch QHD display.  Its 10-hour battery life  + CPU  will grant you enough to power through many Chrome tabs open w/o any hiccups.  

Apple Mac Mini M1

Apple’s new custom M1 chipset has been the talk of the town.  Giving you amazing speed, battery life, and better capable of gaming than previous Intel chips.  The lowest point of entry is their Mac Mini which is almost half the price of a MacBook Pro.   You’ll get all the speed + power but you’ll have to buy a monitor though.  

Samsung Galaxy S21

Samsung’s top of the year flagship, the Galaxy S21,  is still a great buy.  Amazing + bright 120Hz AMOLED display, powerful internals, all-day battery life, and IP68 dust/water-rating.  Perfect for calling, texting, photos, videos, and much more.  For you content creators out there, you can get up to 8K as well as 4K video quality to keep creating.  

Apple iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 is still at the top of the food chain despite being behind in a few areas.  This year brings us an OLED HDR Display, powered by their A14 Bionic CPU, IP68 dust/water rating, MagSafe wireless charging/accessories, dual 12MP shooters capable of 4K HDR video w/ Dolby Vision.   This can still be your all-in-one content creation tool.
