Earlier this morning at BlackBerry World conference, newly-appointed CEO gave everyone a sneak peek of what to the latest BlackBerry 10 OS will look like. The new OS is built on HTML5 and CSS along with C/C++ for their Cascades framework. The offered a sneak peak video demoing the new UI for the OS focusing on emails, phone calls, and their new word-predicting keyboard ( think SureType grown-up). Also demoed at the keynote what some of the OS other features like a timeline lens for the Camera app that records seconds of frames before & after the shot within the cache so you can retake the picture. Multitasking allows for a quick, fluid gestures to jump from app to app. Looks like RIM is finally ready to step up to the plate for big leagues.
At the conference, RIM handed out BB10 developer testing devices that mirror the PlayBook but only smaller. Sporting a 4.2inch display w/ 1024 x 600 resolution, HSPA+ radios, and NFC chips inside. These are not phone-capable devices but gives you an indication on where they are going with the hardware specs for their new BB10 devices. Many view the BB10 OS as their Hail Mary play to win back the respect of consumers, enterprise users, & their stockholders. With what they unveiled thus far, RIM has the tech world’s attention…for the moment.
