Well the late embargo is gone and all of the new Motorola products are now official. Starting off w/ the new Moto X, that’s right. Not the Moto X+1 or the Moto X2 but the 2nd-gen or the new Moto X. Now let’s get started on what’s new on it.

Everything on the new Moto X is bigger and better.

For starters, you now have a 5.2inch Super AMOLED display w/ 1080p resolution + 423ppi, powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU, running Kit Kat (will be upgradeable to Android L) 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, dual front-facing speakers, a rear f/ 2.25 13MP camera capable of 4K video + dual LED-powered ring flash, a 2MP front-facing shooter, and a 2300 mAh battery. There are now 4 mics to cut out background noise and for improved voice control.

Active Display gets better w/ the help of 3 IR blasters on the front panel as you can just wave your hand over the device to see notifications, time, etc. With Moto Voice, you can now choose a custom keyword to say other than ‘ OK, Google Now’. You can also use it to update your Facebook status, open YouTube, etc. Lastly, you can give it a keyword to put the device in sleep mode like ‘goodnight’. Cool stuff.

Moto made sure to add a metal frame for a more premium feel as they improved on Moto Maker customization options as well. You now have more colors to choose from as well as the option for a leather back. Moto Maker will be available for all carriers on day one. Nice touch!

The new Moto X will launch this month on AT&T and Verizon first as you’ll have to wait for Sprint + T-Mobile variants. It will be $99 on contract and $499 no strings attached.
