Yesterday, Sony announced the world’s 1st lens of its kind.  A 12-24mm G Master with an f/2.8 aperture.  This is the 57th lens in Sony’s E-mount line-up now ranging from 12mm all the way to 200mm.

This weighs in at 1.87lbs, has 9-blades, has a customizable focus-hold button, focus-mode switch, zooming ring and focusing ring.  There are four high-speed XD (eXtreme Dynamic) Linear Motors.  All while maintaining a constant aperture of f/2.8.  And unlike most other lenses, you can’t remove the lens hood on this one so keep that in mind.

When using a APS-C or Super 35mm mode on a full-frame Sony mirrorless, the wide-end goes up to 18mm.  Giving you the sharpness you would expect from a G Master lens but adds a great range of a wide zoom into the mix to better create/capture media.  Keep in mind that there is no stabilization present on the lens so you’ll have to rely on steady hands/feet or use your camera’s IBIS.

So this will make an amazing tool for it will be a pricey one though.  APS-C or Super 35 camera, the wide end of the zoom range becomes equivalent to 18mm.

So is this on your wish list?
