As we’re leading to Apple’s Pro and Tell event tomorrow, the company announced more product updates this morning. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and its all-in-one iMac get a mild refresh with the newest M6 processor. Both the M6-powered MBP and iMac will be available for pre-order tomorrow, October 28, and will go on sale on November 6.
Regarding the MacBook Pro, Apple says its newest processor will deliver 30% faster graphics and 24% faster AI processing than the M5 chip. Other than the new silicon, Apple’s pro laptop gets Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 upgrades via Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip. It will retain the 12MP Center Stage camera, three Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports for both charging and DisplayPort, a MagSafe 3 charging port, full-size HDMI, an SDXC card slot, and a quoted 24 hours of battery life on a single charge. Unfortunately, the larger 16-inch model still uses the now-older M5 chip as an option.
Moving on to the iMac, there’s a bit more to this story, even with the unchanged hardware. Apple skipped the M5 option, as the iMac jumps from the M4 to the M6 chip. In the process, it provides a meaningful boost in overall performance. The company quotes up to 5x faster on-device AI performance, 1.5x faster in app performance, and 2x faster graphics performance than the M4 model. Like the M6 MBP, the new iMacs gain Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support through Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip. The iMac keeps its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, a 12MP Center Stage camera, speakers and mics, and up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The M6 MacBook Pro starts at $2,000 with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, and the M6 iMac starts at $1,500 with a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The M6 MacBook Pro will arrive in the same two colors: black and silver, while the M6 iMac will ship in seven colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange, and silver.
