Looks like things are gonna get a lot more expensive for AT&T subscribers. Based on a report from Droid-Life, the carrier is looking to increase its upgrade fee to $45 from $40. But it gets even worse as a new $15 activation fee will now apply to those on AT&T Next as well as those who Bring Your Own Device customers. All of this is supposed to take effect on August 1st.
Those of you on AT&T Next making payments at the moment won’t have to worry about it but moving forward it will apply. Also, the new fee makes the Next plans no longer $0 out of pocket. The only real reason for the new pricing is ‘administrative and other costs associated w/ activating/upgrading a device’.
The folks over at Android Central got a screenshot of the actual internal AT&T document about it as it definitely appears to be happening.
