If you picked up the Surface Pro 3 anytime within the last 2 years, you may be feeling a bit of envy w/ Microsoft's latest offering: the Surface Pro 4. The Pro 4 has an even better internals, a better keyboard, and an improved Surface Pen stylus. However, there are ways to get beef up or breathe more life into your Pro 3 w/ o having to buy an entirely new Surface - at least not just yet.
Although you can't crack open the Pro 3 to add RAM or swap out CPUs/GPUs. We have 3 things for you to do to make your experience.
New Keyboard Cover
If you own a Pro 3, you can utilize any of the Pro 4 Type Covers w/ your Surface. This goes for the Signature Type Cover, Pro 4 Cover, or the Pro 4 Type Cover w/ fingerprint ID scanner. It snaps on exactly the same while offering better spacing throughout the keys & a 40% larger glass trackpad.
External HD
Even though you have a nice SSD inside, you're gonna run out of space unless you maxed out w/ the 512GB storage. You can honestly use any HD but I will point you all to the SSD side of things. More specifically, Samsung's super portable T3 SSD. Offering up faster transfer speeds & portability that you can literally throw in your pocket to keep w/ you at all times.
Surface Pen 4
And lastly for those of you who actually rely on the Surface Pen, you can grab the new one released w/ the Pro 4. You now have an actual eraser on top to use as such. The slightly new design adds a magnetic side to connect to the Type Cover.
Hopefully, this will help hold you down until you actually are ready or need to buy a new Surface. Word around town is that we will get a new 3rd Surface option real soon in the form of an All-In-One desktop under the Surface line.
