So it’s officially 2019 and the Apple AirPower ain’t here- yet.  Instead of waiting to see, the folks over at Nomad has the ultimate wireless charging solution w/ their Base Station.  This isn’t the 1st Nomad product we’ve handled as we previously reviewed their Slim Wallet w/ Tile tracking late last year or a few weeks ago.

If you’re unfamiliar, Nomad is an accessory company that specializes in minimal leather-bound products for iPhones as well as top Samsung & Google devices.  With the Base Station, it continues w/ padded leather wireless charging surface w/ 3 charging coils underneath it w/ an aircraft-grade aluminum body.  So this gives you the ability to wirelessly charge 2 devices as well as 2 more devices via USB.  More on that in a few.

Nomad’s Base Station is armed w/ LED indicators so you can know when things are charging on the aluminum base.  BTW, those LED lights have an ambient light sensor that adjust to its environments.  The charging pad portion is capable of dual 10-watt wireless charging where 2 devices can charge wirelessly at the same time and both fast.  However, charging 2 devices wirelessly at once can be a bit tricky at 1st finding the sweet spot on the pad.  Once you get it, it’s great.

It can take a little bit to find the sweet spot to charge both devices via Qi-charging.

Handling the wired charging is a USB-A 7.5-watt and a USB-C PD 18-watt port.  With the USB-C port, you can charge more than phones like Chromebooks, newer MacBook/MacBook Pros, and the new iPad Pros now too.  This comes in handy for Pixel 3 owners as they can utilize this option to get a fast charge out of it despite being wired.  We mention that because Google only allows 2 devices to wireless charge the Pixel 3 fast: the Pixel Stand and one from Belkin.  Everything else you use will charge slowly.

Until something better comes out, this is the best charging solution.

So why pay for a mere wireless charger when Nomad is giving you.  The Base Station can charge up to 4 smartphones as well as any other device – from Nintendo Switch consoles, cameras, and even laptops.  So as long as it can plug in via USB or USB-C, this thing can charge it.  All within a beautiful and clean design that doesn’t take up a lot of space.

So looks like Nomad did what Apple too to long to do.  The Base Station is a great charging solution for those looking to charging multiple items.  It actually might be one of the best that’s out right now.  You will have to pay a bit of a premium to charge up to 4 devices as it will cost you $100.  For those of you w/ an Apple Watch, don’t fret.  Nomad has a Base Station made just for you as it will cost you an extra $20 though.
