3G! 3G! 3G! What the hell is 3G some may ask?
Well, we tech guys are gonna try to do our best to break it down for you all in laymen’s terms.
3G is the third generation of mobile standards & technology. 3G includes high-speed data (such as live, streaming video), always-on data access (even while on the phone), and greater voice capacity.
Now to delve a little bit deeper into it’s capabilities, it uses a technology called HSPA(High-Speed Packet Access) which has two separate data services which allows networks to have higher data transfer speeds and capacity called HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) for downloading from your handset & HSUPA (High-Speed Uplink Packet) for uploading from your handset. HSDPA allows downloading speeds of up to 14.4 Megabits per second and HSUPA allows uploading speeds 5.8 Megabits per second. As opposed to EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution, which is considered 2.5G) that downstream data rates up to 236Kilabits per second. Which would take forever to download a 3 minute track from your favorite artist via ZShare.
3G…What a brave new world we’re stepping into.
Hope this was informative and not confusing, leave any comments if it was or if we missed anything.
