You ever heard of the term fashion technology? I’m not even sure it has been coined yet. Fashion Technology is a general term for electronic items that are in vogue and are in high demand by the general public, even if they are not the best product for that specific type. How do you know which item is under this category? Basically if you see a line outside of Best Buy that is not on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) for the newest electronic device, That is it.

A perfect example is Apple. Yes they have been around forever. They even got Forrest Gump paid. But for most of the 90’s they were basically providing stuff that stayed out of the mainstream. Then the Millennium rolled around and they must have hired one hell of a PR rep and they started marketing their new iPods as the Walkman for the new generation. They were sleek, modern looking(the name iPod comes from a vague 2001:A Space Odyssey reference), and they sold at a premium which, at that moment insured exclusivity. Since it’s debut in October of 2001 they have dominated the portable media market. Even I have one. But it comes to a big debate if they were the best. I honestly don’t think so. They are really good, but I have seen other portable media devices that were so much better…and cheaper. But the promotional juggernaut pushed it to the number one spot and has stayed there.

Don’t get me wrong, they could be great items but they might not be right for you. Just make an informed decision before you buy. And don;t follow cool looking commercials like the one above (even though it is cool…). Keep an eye out for the things that I said. And if you think this does not exist don;t think about it. Cell phones, Video games, Mp3 Players. Look around. You might be surprised. Later.
