The Sprint ads from TV introduces to the term 4G to the folk who may have never heard of it. 4G is a new network promises voice, data, & high quality multimedia(Digital Video Broadcasting/DVB, HDTV video content, and VOIP/Voice Over Internet Provider) to be streamed in real time from anywhere, all the time. Also the voice & data connections are streamed together, rather than separately, with a connection which is up to 4x faster than what the current 3G networks are capable of. With music/video downloading, higher security measures will have to be taken. 4G offers data rates at 100Megabits to 1Gigabit a second between any two points in the world, as opposed to 3G’s 5.8Megabits to 14.4Megabits just to give you an idea of the speed difference. For example at rates of 100Megabits, a DVD movie can be downloaded within 5 minutes. 4G is not yet ready for launchbut carriers like Sprint & Verizon hope to have some of their 4G networks up by the end of 2010. Sprint currently offers 4G in the Baltimore. But this has some ways to go before being actually launched with these quoted speeds. It’s OK, we have no choice but to wait. Get familiar with 3G here in the meantime.
