The good folks at RIM were kind enough to share their optical trackpad technology with the world via their BlackBerry Blog. The optical trackpad is only on the newer BlackBerry devices like the Curve 8520/8530, Bold 9700, & the upcoming Tour2 (Essex) replacing the trackball which debuted on the Pearl series. This trackpad uses a low-resolution infrared camera to record movement across the surface and translate it into movement. So now BrickBreaker can be played with gloves on now. Above is an illustration displaying how the trackpad works. Just thought it was interesting enough to share with you guys.
