Yeah we stand by our statement but again, it is our opinion. The iPhone 4 has the new iOS4, Nokia is currently teetering between Symbian & MeeGo, Microsoft is revamping their Windows Mobile with Windows Phone 7, and BlackBerry has the up and coming OS 6 on the way. We feel that other OS covers as many bases the Android’s latest 2.2 OS does.
As Android continues grow and make its stamp in the smartphone marketplace, the hardware is other key component other than the software the makes Google’s OS a force to be reckoned with. The software definitely brings its best foot forward with the mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, faster Javascript performance over other OS browsers, and Flash 10.1 player support. This leaves for the hardware makers to provide a device with a 1GHz processor and 256MB of internal memory to take full advantage of software’s capabilities. The Nexus One is a prime example of Android’s finest (Note: At the moment the Nexus One is only Android device officially to receive the Froyo update while other Android devices shall hit before summer).
When the HTC EVO 4G receives their Android 2.2, it should pose quite a hand-on competition to the iPhone 4 and its iOS4. Both armed with a 1GHz processor, front-facing camera, and overall faster performance but we think Android having mobile Wi-Fi hotspot ability and faster Javascript over iOS4 gives Google the upper hand. Apps of course help make the OS user experience even better like turning phones into a TV remote, flashlight, etc. Android’s Marketplace isn’t as big as Apple’s App Store but it’s becoming a developers haven and is continuing to grow.
Of course the iOS4 and Android battle comes down to a matter of opinion, some may think Apple’s apps reign over Android’s in quantity and quality but Android base OS abilities does more without the assistance of apps. Who knows else Android has in store for past 2.2? Rumors on the internet states that Android 3.0 is due out in the 4th quarter of this year. We here at TGSB can’t wait to see what future of Google’s Android has to bring.
