After finally getting my hands on the recently released BlackBerry Torch 9800, I was definitely disappointed in my experience with it. My gripes are with the hardware and not the software. The Torch was way too slow and lagging to be RIM’s newest consumer focused device. Enough so that you experience with BB6 isn’t the one they showed off at their press conference.

It just seemed like the hardware of the Torch comes up short in the performance side. Although the Torch is equipped with the same 624MHz processor as the 9700/9650 and 4GB of internal storage, the constantly discussed problems are the Torch performance. On Friday BGR got a hold of a leaked version BB6 running on a Bold 9700 and to some people’s surprise, it actually ran smoother on the Bold than on the Torch. Leaving the hard core BlackBerry users not on AT&T more eager to get their BB6 fix on. I know I am. BlackBerry loyalists will enjoy the little tweaks that BB6 has to offer like the visual overhaul, new notification system, new camera features, and the long-awaited WebKit browser.

The new OS by RIM is a nice refresh for BlackBerry users but I hope it’s only the beginning. RIM needs a serious update on their hardware along with more enhancements to make BB6 an actual competitor. RIM needs to step up their hardware as the current standard is 1GHz (soon to be 1.5GHz), higher screen resolution, 720p video recording ability, at least 8GB of internal storage, and for touchscreen device at least a 4inch screen to even be considered competition.  As far as the Torch: even with the latest OS from RIM too little, too late.  The rant does not express the view of everyone at TGSB.  Sorry RIM, love you guys but had to get this off of my chest.
