The Wall Street Journal has got some insight on the reason why Verizon won’t be supporting Windows Phone 7 upon its launch. Apparently Microsoft is only offering its new OS to GSM carriers first upon launch and plan to offer it to it to CDMA carriers beginning mid-2011. So T-Mobile and AT&T along with every other GSM-based carrier can say hello to WP7 upon launch while Verizon and Sprint will have to wait till at least the middle of next year. Microsoft’s reason for choosing GSM carriers first is because they are more carriers using that technology globally over CDMA carriers and Microsoft is looking to hit as many markets as they can upon launch. Sprint/Verizon users don’t look at it as a bad thing, they may wait and get the better devices like Verizon did with Android.
