Just as the new prices kick in for Netflix, this happens.   The popular DVD/streaming company was not able to reach a deal with Starz to continue offering their library on Netflix.  So effective February 28, 2012, there will be no more movies available from the network.   Starz has this to say on the matter via press release:

“Starz Entertainment has ended contract renewal negotiations with Netflix. When the agreement expires on February 28, 2012, Starz will cease to distribute its content on the Netflix streaming platform.  This decision is a result of our strategy to protect the premium nature of our brand by preserving the appropriate pricing and packaging of our exclusive and highly valuable content.  With our current studio rights and growing original programming presence, the network is in an excellent position to evaluate new opportunities and expand its overall business.”

Sucks as loses a Netflix loses a good partner in business that us consumers benefited from.    But they still have Lionsgate, Paramount, MGM, and recently Epix movies for subscribers to choose from.   Just wish the premium channels like HBO & Showtime wouldn’t charge so much so we could enjoy that too.  Who wouldn’t wanna stream seasons of Entourage, True Blood, Dexter, & Weeds?  Or maybe its just me.
