Now that the new iPad is out and about, now let the new iPhone (iPhone 5) rumors begin. Since we only got a slight upgrade from the iPhone 4 to the 4S, we expect the new one to over a little bit more. With Apple’s pattern of upgrade cycles, we know the House that Jobs built will finally release what was believed to be the iPhone 5. Thanks to the tipsters over at iMore, new details have surfaced in regards to what and when we may expect.
Expected to follow the new iPad, the next iPhone will be called exactly that: the new iPhone. The new iPhone will be equipped with a 4G LTE radio making it compatible for AT&T and Verizon’s LTE networks as Sprint’s is slated to launch sometime in the summer. Hopefully they make the cut.
Also new to the iPhone is a new micro-dock connector as a new syncing/charging port. The current iPhone model uses a 30-pin connector as the new one may be a smaller 15-pin connector or even a micro-USB port. We’ll see which route Apple goes with this one.
Next up we have a similar size as the current model with a 3.5inch display. It is not yet confirmed but Apple could make the body slightly wider and make the screen take up more of the body for a 4inch display. I would prefer a bigger display but I know Steve Jobs was against having a huge 4.3inch display for the iPhone. Not sure if that preference would still stand since he is no longer with us. Another case of the wait and see.
And last but not least: the projected release date. They have the new iPhone matching last year’s launch schedule of a October/Fall release. As many would hope for Apple to go back to the previous schedule of a June release, that would shorten the iPhone’s lifespan to 9 months rather than 1 year. No reason to fix what isn’t broken, right? Doesn’t really touch on any info on the materials used for the new iPhone (glass, aluminum) but we expect more rumors from now until October. What do you guys think of it thus far?
