Looks like Sony is also looking at a 2013 release for their next big console along with the Wii U and the Next Xbox.  Sony’s PlayStation is a great console but hasn’t brought anything ground-breaking to the gaming table.  All has pretty much been quite on the Sony side in regards to their next console until now.

According to the sources at Kotaku, Sony’s next gaming console currently codenamed the Orbis and due for a launch around the holiday season next year.   Thus far the Orbis is slated to use an AMD 64-bit processor and matching GPU.   The Orbis graphics will be capable of displaying resolution up to 4096 x 2160, which is unheard of right now besting even the new iPad’s Retina Display let alone your HDTV.

The bad news is that the allegedly the new console won’t support PS3 titles and will lock new games to a PSN account as used-games will not be welcome on the Orbis.  New titles can be purchased either on Blu-Ray or downloaded via the PSN.  The anti-used games lock is also rumored to be present on the new Xbox console as well.

Keep in mind this intel is not set in stone and can change dramatically as there is a lot of time between now and the end of next year.
