Today Microsoft held its Windows Phone Summit unveiling the future of their revamped mobile OS. As you saw with the Surface tablet, Microsoft is ready to play with the market leaders by stepping up their efforts in matching capabilities for Windows Phone devices. For starters, you can already see smaller live tiles for an updated look to the Start Screen but there is more like:

  • Skype & VoIP Integration
  • Nokia Maps powering WP8 Mapping w/ native turn-by-turn navigation
  • NFC Payment Support with the new Wallet Hub & a Passbook-like feature
  • 720p HD Screen Resolution
  • Multi-Core Processor Support
  • SD card support
Definitely getting even more excited for the Windows Phone OS. No word on availability of the WP8 update as current Windows Phone owners shouldn’t expect it get updated to it (Bummer). The next update of 7.8 will however offer some of the features of WP8 but you will need to upgrade your hardware to enjoy everything.
