A few days ago, there was a rumor floating around the MetroPCS and T-Mobile are in talks of a merger.   Then yesterday, MetroPCS confirmed that the two companies are in talks of joining forces.  And this morning, the deal is done for $1.5 billion and will be officially pending FCC approval of course.

This looks to be a win-win for both consumers, the two carriers, and the parent company Deutsche Telekom.  MetroPCS was looking to dump CDMA technology for GSM, this helps T-Mobile will its upcoming LTE expansion, and D Telekom has been looking to dump its US carrier onto someone for quite a while now.   This would also boost T-Mo’s pre-paid subscriptions as well.   The deal is expected to be finalized sometime during the first half of 2013.   Check out a video below of T-Mo’s new CEO discussing the merger.
