Many AT&T subscribers were pissed to find out when iOS 6 allowed FaceTime over cellular and the carrier only allowed customers using their MobileShare plan to access it. The good news is that today the carrier announced that they will open FaceTime over cellular for subscribers on a tiered data plan as well. The bad news is that is only applies to the iPhone 5 & new iPads (3rd-gen, 4th-gen, & mini) at the moment and those with unlimited data plans still can’t enjoy this feature.
The reason this wasn’t available earlier was the company wanted to assess the impact of data that feature would have on their network. Don’t expect this feature to roll out until another 8-10 weeks but it is coming. Those with older iPhone may get access to this eventually but AT&T may play the waiting game.
