Earlier this year, Redbox and Verizon announced a partnership that would give the DVD kiosk added instant streaming abilities. Today, more details are available for the service called Redbox Instant. The joint venture puts the company right where it wants to be…in direct competition with Netflix.
Even with pricing, Redbox Instant already undercuts Netflix by offering more for less at the moment. Unlimited streaming only plan will cost you only $6 monthly while $8 monthly will get you unlimited streaming along with four nights of DVD rentals. For $1 extra monthly, you can get four nights of Blu-Ray rentals instead. Redbox has already secured deals with Epix and Warner Bros for even more content.
Even with all of this, Netflix still has the advantage of TV shows and more content with different partners. But we will see how everything plays out. The service is expected to launch later this month as an invite-only service (basically beta testers) before going on a full-scale launch.
