For those of you unfamiliar with Blackmagic, they are a company specializing in crafting the world’s highest quality digital film cameras, monitors, video editing and more. Their cameras range from 1080p HD in fast frames to stereoscopic 3D to the newest high-end format, 4K video cameras. Prior to today, they produced bigger video cameras for the film heads making documentaries to film length films. But weren’t as affording or portable. That all changes with the Pocket Cinema camera.
The Pocket Cinema camera is equipped with a Super 16mm HD Lumix lens, can record 1080p HD video in 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 & 30 fps, 13 stops of dynamic range (allowing for better film quality images), SD card slot, shoots in Apple ProRes or lossless RAW, 3.5inch LCD display, and armed with a mic + headphone/micro-HDMI outs.
Due out in July with a $995 price tag on it. Think of this as their version of high-end mirrorless camera as you use other micro- four thirds lenses and adapters on this as well. It matches the size of an iPhone 5 in width so it definitely lives up to the name of being pocketable. Ideal for anyone looking to craft their own original YouTube series or looking to just record a better quality of video.
