According to sources close to The Verge & the NY Times, Google recently secured deals with Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment for both Google Play & YouTube.  These deals w/ the two largest music companies were pretty much the final piece of the puzzle for Google to offer a subscription-based, music streaming service for all things Android.  An unexpected move as this would put Google’s music streaming service announced and possibly available before Apple.

Looks like Google will beat Apple to take on Spotify’s music streaming service.
Consumers could expect to pay as low as $10 per month to access it with no free tier available at launch.  This would put Google in quite the position as a premier entertainment company through YouTube and this new service.  This goes along with the new Android chief stating that this year’s I/O event would focus more software and developers rather than new hardware.
