Fresh from the Luima 1020 event this morning, we went to spend some quality time with the new flagship Windows Phone 8 device from Nokia.  There was a vast spread of demo stations that included a singing quartet, a parkour team, a dark room/light room, app + music stations along with a spread of food, wine, & cleansing juices.   Below lies my notes on what the Lumia 1020 is all about.

  • The Lumia 1020 build quality is synonymous with the 920 – solid polycarbonate body, a bit on the thick side in regards to profile, but not heavy.
  • The software is pretty much the same as any other Windows Phone 8 device minus the addition of the new Nokia Smart Camera + Pro Camera apps.  The rear-shooter on the new Lumia is really the big (and only new story here).
  • The Pure View camera is does offer a great optics as there is a lot going on with the sensor and software.  That lens sticks out like a sore thumb though.  I doubt it is durable enough to survive serious drops.  Like we said before, there are 6 lenses on-board that captures a 38MP + 34MP full resolution images alongside an oversampled 5MP photo to share to your favorite social networks.  It does offer the ability of high resolution zoom for photos/video.
  • The photos we have seen did look great.  The low-light abilities on the photos captured with the Lumia 1020 is amazing.

  • Interesting enough is that Nokia will offer a Camera Grip accessory to make taking photos better w/ a shutter button, universal tripod mount, and an extra battery support.
So who’s excited about the Lumia 1020?  How many of you previous Lumia owners are pissed?  Sound off.
