Well BlackBerry has been known to get our hopes up a time two before, and I guess this is no different. After the long and highly anticipated release of the most what was once the most powerful messenging platform on a mobile device, BlackBerry has delayed the release of BBM to other operating systems.
The reason seems believable enough. After a leak of the BBM app for Android was released it caused some major problems. The 1 million some odd users that were able to get access to this early unauthorized release seemed to have crashed the BlackBerry server within a matter of 8 hours and caused BlackBerry to withdraw the Android version of the BBM app. Although many users for the iOS were fortunate enough to get the app as well, BlackBerry has not pulled the plug on them. The bad news though is that the BBM app will not be distributing any further for either operating system until BlackBerry is able to provide a stable more controlled roll out of the app. There is no time frame in mind as of yet for this roll out but I would think it will be slow and timely.
Earlier today, BlackBerry let everyone know that the delay is taking longer than expected to fix as BlackBerry Messenger for Android and iOS will not launch this week. They are in the process of blocking those using the unreleased version before continuing the official rollout. As per BBM’s Executive VP, don’t expect to see the app come to you anytime this week. Hopefully, they can resolve this issue sooner rather than later.
