As previous rumors suggested, Instagram brings you photo, video, & text messaging w/ Instagram Direct. Earlier today, the Facebook-owned company held a press event in NYC to talk about the company’s user base and such and revealed Instagram Direct. The difference between sharing an image normally and using the new Direct is that everything seen (photos, videos, texts) will be only seen by the people you want rather than all of your followers.
The new update will reveal a new icon in your top right corner that allows you talk/share in private and also when uploading pics as well. Within your private conversations, you can see who read or viewed the message/media.
