While it seems like the long-rumored Apple TV (Streaming TV+ display not the streaming box) isn’t coming any sooner, yesterday a new report suggests a workaround of sorts is in the works.   According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is currently in talks w/ Comcast to craft a new TV streaming service via set-top box.  Bringing consumers another avenue for streaming video and store content to a cloud-based DVR like Aereo does.

Apple is looking to improve their efforts in bringing you video content on-demand.

The deal would allow Apple access to Comcast’s bandwidth to run smoothly and avoid slow speeds + congestion.  The deal is far from being finalized as Comcast would need to upgrade that network to maintain speeds for the service and Apple still needs to acquire the rights in order to stream the content.

The new set-top box Apple is working will be a definite upgrade from the current Apple TV which the company themselves deemed as a hobby.  First they want they’re own music-streaming service, now this.  Apple is looking to step out of their realm of just hardware + software and become a player in media content.
