Earlier today, the Internet was more or less rocked by this breaking report. According to the Financial Times, Apple is wrapping up negotiations to purchase Jimmy Iovine’s & Dr. Dre’s Beats company for $3.2 billion. Making this Apple’s biggest acquisition to date.
While many of us are scratching our heads and speculating on what was the motive behind the deal. There was word that Apple was seriously looking to get into the music streaming service now that iTunes sales isn’t what it was many years ago.
Maybe some Jony Ive special edition all-White Beats headphones?
While Beats Music is a beautifully-designed app, it didn’t offer anything compelling enough for consumers to jump on or leave their current music subscription service. On the headphone side of things, we really have no clue on what they may have planned.
If this deal goes through, Apple will have an in-house headphone & music streaming company. The deal is said to be announced as early as next week.
Update:
It appears that it is already a done deal as R&B singer Tyrese, movie director F. Gary Gray, and Dr. Dre himself were celebrating the fact the 1st Billionaire in hip-hop is from the west coast via TheNextWeb
