It is definitely acquisition season. Earlier this afternoon, AT&T announced that it will be buying DirecTV at $95 per share or $48.5 billion. The carrier is seeking to expand its video services by utilizing the satellite company’s resources to do more.
AT&T could now better stream video in more places like on your phone or on planes.
AT&T already has its U-verse TV service which is quite limited and DirecTV can’t offer Internet service packages to its subscribers. By the 2 joining forces, both issues can be resolved as they hope to make even more $$$.
Of course this deal is pending FCC approval. So we’ll see if this comes into actual fruition. The 2 companies are holding a conference call to go over more details and take questions about the acquisition.
